The stage was set for the inaugural Gwrhyd dry stone walling competition. Preparations had been taking place for over six months as members of the DSWA Wales branch put a call out to DSWA members and wallers to compete in the three competition classes. Held at the beautiful Crachllwyn Farm, Rhiwfawr which overlooks the Swansea valley, the views of Mumbles Pier and Aberavon Sea Front did not distract the competitors from their task. The competition of the 13th July 2020 was part of the relaunched Grand Prix of Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain and competitors from two countries were representing England and Wales.
The day was overseen by judges Master Craftsman Mr Alan Jones ESQ of Llangernyw, Clwyd & Master Craftsman Sean Adcock B.E.M of Penisarwaen, Gwynedd.
A fun and relaxed competition all competitors enjoyed the event. Neath & Port Talbot is a great place to come and visit. The organisers look forward to next years competition which will be held on Saturday the 12th July 2025.
